Tony winner Bryan Cranston is spending some time across the pond. Currently starring in Network, the actor brings to life the story of anchorman Howard Beale as he’s being dismissed by his network for lack of viewers; but when his on-air breakdown spurs a ratings boon, the network tries to leverage their newfound star.
Directed by Tony winner Ivo van Hove (A View From the Bridge), the adaptation penned by Lee Hall includes video simulcasting to create the newsroom onstage. The web of technology, video, and lighting is a complicated one, and van Hove and his team—associate video designer Christopher Ash, scenic and lighting designer Jan Versweyveld, and costume designer An D’Huys—talk about the challenges of putting Network on the Lyttleton Theatre stage. Watch the video above.
The production also features an offer to participate in a fuller experience called Foodwork, turning Network into a kind of dinner theatre.
