The musical portrait of the folk singer—who influenced the likes of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash—opened Off-Broadway June 8.

Go Behind the Scenes of Irish Rep’s Woody Guthrie Musical: Woody Sez

Woody Sez was created by David M. Lutken with Nick Corley (who directs), Darcie Deaville, Helen J. Russell, and Andy Teirstein. Featuring some of Guthrie’s best-known songs like “This Land Is Your Land” and “So Long It’s Been Good To Know Yuh,” performances began June 1.

The current cast is made up of Darcie Deaville (Back Bog Beast Bait), David Finch (Cabaret), David M. Lutken (Southern Comfort), and Helen J. Russell (Ring of Fire).

The production features lighting design by Michael Gottlieb (Rebel in the Soul), set design by Luke Hegel-Cantarella (Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man), costume design by Jeffrey Meek, and music direction by David M. Lutken.
