Gently Down the Stream, the new play by Tony-nominated playwright and screenwriter Martin Sherman, began performances at the Public Theater March 15 with an official opening scheduled for April 5.

Starring Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, the play tells the story of Beau, a pianist expat living in London at the dawn of the internet dating revolution, who meets Rufus (Gabriel Ebert), an eccentric young lawyer. Hailing from two very different generations of gay men, their subsequent love story is billed by the theatre as “remarkably moving“ and “brilliantly funny.”
