Off-Broadway News Exclusive: First Look at Queen at Astoria Performing Arts Center The New York premiere of the Madhuri Shekar play begins performances January 31.

Madhuri Shekar’s Queen is set to begin performances January 31 at Astoria Performing Arts Center in Queens. The production, directed by J. Mehr Kaur, is scheduled to run through February 16.

According to production notes, Queen tells the story of two female scientists, Sanam and Ariel, who have spent the past seven years researching vanishing bee populations across the globe. Just as they are about to publish a career-defining paper, Sanam stumbles upon an error that could cause catastrophic damage to their reputations, careers, and friendship. Now, both women are confronted with an impossible choice: look the other way and save the bees—or tell the truth and face the consequences?

Queen stars Ezra Barnes, Kabir Chopra, Rachel Rhodes-Devey, and Mahimi Saigal. The production features sets by Susannah Hyde, costumes by Caitlin Cisek, lighting by Shelby Loera, and sound design by Margaret Montagna.
