Euan Morton, who recently concluded a star turn in the national tour of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, will join the Broadway cast of Hamilton. He assumes the role of King George III, succeeding fellow Tony nominee Brian d’Arcy James, beginning July 28.
D'Arcy James, who created the role of the British pop-singing monarch in the Off-Broadway production at the Public Theater, will take his final bow at the Richard Rodgers Theatre July 16.
Morton received Tony and Olivier Award nominations for his performance as Boy George in Taboo. His additional credits include Cyrano de Bergerac and Sondheim on Sondheim on Broadway, as well as the Public's Measure for Measure and Parade at Ford's Theatre.
The current cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical includes Javier Muñoz as Alexander Hamilton, Brandon Victor Dixon as Aaron Burr, Lexi Lawson as Eliza Hamilton, Mandy Gonzalez as Angelica Schuyler, Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, Bryan Terrell Clark as George Washington, Alysha Deslorieux as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds, J.
