The previously announced new recording of Songs for a New World was released digitally and as a two-disc set January 25. The Ghostlight Records album preserves the performances from the cast of the 2018 Encores! Off-Center presentation of the Jason Robert Brown song cycle: Shoshana Bean, Mykal Kilgore, Solea Pfeiffer, and Colin Donnell.

The Off-Center production, which ran in June at New York City Center, was directed by Kate Whoriskey and choreographed by Rennie Harris, who incorporated an ensemble of dancers into the staging. Brown revised and expanded the arrangements and orchestrations, including a nine-piece band and string quartet, for the new mounting.

The album is produced by Brown and Jeffrey Lesser, with Stacey Mindich and Ghostlight's Kurt Deutsch.
