The evening honors James L. Nederlander, president of the Nederlander Organization, who will be awarded the Humane Society’s Sandy Fund Award in recognition of “his deep concern and support of the needs of rescued animals.” Nederlander has a special connection to The Sandy Fund, which is named in honor of the original canine star of Broadway’s Annie. It was his father, the late James M. Nederlander, who produced the long-running musical, and so gave Sandy his very first acting job. Sandy quickly became a Broadway star, playing 2,363 performances of Annie on Broadway, and performed for two American presidents at the White House. The Sandy Fund Award will be presented by McArdle, who created the role of Annie.

Best in Shows, which begins at 7 PM, is presented by trainers Dorothy and Bill Berloni and will have music direction by Seth Rudetsky, who also serves as host. Among other stars who are scheduled to perform: Orfeh, Brad Oscar, Adam Kantor, Michael Mulheren, and Stephen Wallem. The Broadway performers will be joined by surprise two- and four-legged guests.

Tickets, at $150 and $250, can be ordered online at Tickets: Best in Shows. For further information visit humanesocietyny.org. THe VIP $250 tickets include a champagne reception with performers after the show.

Rudetsky has been a special guest performer on many of Playbill’s Broadway on the High Seas cruises. Cabins are available for Broadway on the Danube River with Michael Feinstein for November 3–13, also featuring Rachel Bay Jones, Julia Murney, Christopher Fitzgerald, Laura Osnes, Marc Kudisch, Brandon Uranowitz, and Rudetsky.

Tickets are also now on sale for Playbill’s Broadway on the High Seas July 2018 cruise to Iceland, accompanied by Judy Kuhn, Christine Ebersole, Rob McClure, Jarrod Spector, Carmen Cusack, and Sierra Boggess.
