Emerson String Quartet will offer an intimate house concert as part of this year’s recently renamed Hamlen-Palm Series. The recital, set for April 9 at an undisclosed private TriBeCa loft, will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ Classical Action program.

The quartet, comprised of Eugene Drucker, Philip Setzer, Lawrence Dutton, and Paul Watkins, will perform four movements of Mozart’s String Quartet No. 18 in A Major, K. 464, followed by Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. @ in A Major, Op. 68.

The Hamlen-Palm series, formerly the Michael Palm series, honors two late leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS: Classical Action Founding Director Charles Hamlen and philanthropist Michael Palm. Since 1993, Classical Action has boasted the talents of classical, opera, and jazz artists to raise money for those living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses; it became a program of BC/EFA in 1997.

The 2019 Hamlen-Palm Series will continue May 9 with a concert from pianist André Watts.
