Regional News Emerson Colonial Theatre Announces 2018 Season The newly renovated theatre reopens this summer with the pre-Broadway world premiere of Moulin Rouge!

Boston’s newly refurbished Emerson Colonial Theatre, which is set to reopen this summer with the pre-Broadway try-out of Moulin Rouge!, has announced additional programming for its 2018 season.

As previously reported, the historic theatre will relight its stage with the world-premiere musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film Moulin Rouge. Directed by Tony nominee Alex Timbers, Moulin Rouge! will run July 10–August 19 ahead of an anticipated New York bow later this season. Aaron Tveit and Tony winner Karen Olivo star.

The Colonial season will also include Grammy Award winner Michael McDonald (September 22); Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games (September 28); Tony Award winner Heather Headley in concert (November 3); Rufus Wainwright: All These Poses Anniversary Tour (December 5); Manheim Steamroller Christmas (December 8); The Hip Hop Nutcracker (December 15–16); and a two-week holiday engagement of the non-equity touring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (December 18–30).
