Broadway News Drew Gehling Will Return to Broadway's Waitress The actor will reprise his performance as Dr. Pomatter, joining Betsy Wolfe in the Sara Bareilles musical.

The doctor is back in. Drew Gehling, who originated the role of Dr. Pomatter in the Broadway musical Waitress, will return to the show to reprise his performance beginning June 27. He takes over at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for Chris Diamantopoulos, who will take his final bow June 25.

Gehling will also star in the pre-Broadway engagement of Roman Holiday, a musical adaptation of the 1953 film featuring the music of Cole Porter, in San Francisco. Performances will run May 23 through June 18.

When the actor returns to the role, he will join a cast led by Betsy Wolfe, who takes center stage as Jenna Hunterson beginning June 13. The role is currently played by the show’s composer and lyricist, Grammy and Tony nominee Sara Bareilles.

In addition to Waitress and Roman Holiday, Gehling’s stage credits include Jersey Boys and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever on Broadway, as well as A Minister’s Wife, Billy and Ray, and I Believe.

The current cast of Waitress also features Christopher Fitzgerald as Ogie, Will Swenson as Earl, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, Charity Angel Dawson as Becky, Eric Anderson as Cal, and Dakin Matthews as Joe.
