The Academy Award-winning 1937 animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be the next title from the Disney catalogue to get a live-action screen revamp.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is currently developing the project with The Girl on the Train screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson attached to adapt and expand upon the Brothers Grimm fairytale classic.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Tony Award-nominated songwriting duo whose new musical Dear Evan Hansen, arrives on Broadway this season, are writing new songs for the live-action musical that will incorporate material from the original film.

Marc Platt, the producer of Mary Poppins Returns, Into the Woods and Wicked, is attached to produce Snow White for Disney. Platt is also working on Disney’s Little Mermaid, and produced Pasek and Paul’s recent movie musical La La Land, which drew raves from critics.

The Snow White announcement follows Disney’s roll-out of other live-action projects in development, including Aladdin, Mulan, and The Lion King.

Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast hits theatres March 17, 2017, starring Emma Watson.
