The York Theatre Company production of Desperate Measures, a new musical comedy from Peter Kellogg (Anna Karenina) and David Friedman (Scandalous), will now play through December 31. The limited Off-Broadway engagement began September 19 and was previously scheduled to run through October 15.

Desperate Measures is playing The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter’s. The musical features music by Friedman and book and lyrics by two-time Tony nominee Kellogg.

In Desperate Measures (a nod to Shakespeare's Measure for Measure), a fiery young cowboy awaits the death sentence in 1890. Will his sister, a novice nun on a nearby mission, be able to convince the corrupt governor to spare her brother? “Adding to the humorous complications are a hard-bitten sheriff, a voluptuous saloon girl and a priest who reads Nietzsche,“ read production notes from the York.

Measure for Measure is directed and choreographed by Bill Castellino (Marry Harry, Cagney), with music direction by David Hancock Turner (The World Will Not Contain Us).

The cast is made up of Emma Degerstedt (The Little Mermaid) as Susanna/Sister Mary Jo, Gary Marachek (1776) as Father Morse, Lauren Molina (Rock of Ages) as Bella Rose, Conor Ryan (john and jen) as Johnny Blood, Peter Saide (Skin Tight) as Sheriff Green, and Nick Wyman (Les Misérables) as Governor von Richterhenkenpflichtgetruber. Understudies are Anthony Festa, Celia Hottenstein, and Tom Souhrada.

The creative team includes James Morgan (set), Nicole Wee (costumes), Paul Miller (lights), Julian Evans (sound), Deb Gaouette (props), Carol Hanzel (casting), Joseph Hayward (associate director), and Kevin Maloof (production manager). The production stage manager is Christine Lemme with assistant stage manager Laura C. Nelson.

The production is presented in association with Pat Flicker Addiss. For tickets and more information visit Yorktheatre.org.
