Video Daisy Hobbs Launches New Musical Web Series Outcast The actor, currently onstage in On a Clear Day You Can See Forever Off-Broadway, is the star, writer, director, and producer of the new comedy.

Comedian, singer-songwriter, and performer Daisy Hobbs has launched an original musical web series about the struggles of a musical theatre actor. Titled Outcast, and now available online, the series is created, written, directed, and produced by Hobbs, who also stars as the leading character—a hilarious and well-meaning singing actor called Lisa Bobbins.

Watch the first episode, “I Can't Be in a Black Musical,” in which Lisa struggles during an audition of The Color Purple, above. Hobbs also performs the episode's title song.

Outcast, which officially launched earlier this month, is billed by Hobbs as a “mix between Issa Rae's Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, Michaela Coel's Chewing Gum, and Rachel Bloom's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”

Hobbs is the first woman of color to create, write, direct, produce, star in, and compose the music for a digital series. She has performed on Broadway in Disney’s Aladdin and in the national tour of Memphis and is currently performing in Irish Repertory Theatre's revival of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever Off-Broadway.
