Cynthia Erivo may have quickly gained Hollywood’s attention with breakout performances in Widows and Bad Times at the El Royale, but don’t expect her to stop singing out anytime soon. The Tony Award winner has signed with Verve Records, according to Billboard, and is set to record an album in 2019.

The actor and singer, who led the 2015 revival of The Color Purple, took to Twitter to promise a studio album comprised of “music that makes you feel good, let’s you cry, and tells the truth.”

“Cynthia Erivo has a voice like no other, and we are proud to have her join the pantheon of Verve’s greatest vocalists including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone,” said Verve CEO and President Danny Bennett. “Cynthia has proven she is an artistic talent that is capable of accomplishing anything she puts her mind to.”

Her additional upcoming projects include the Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet, Needle in a Timestack opposite fellow Tony winner Leslie Odom Jr., and the sci-fi flick Chaos Walking. She will take the stage at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room December 20 for a concert event, which will air on PBS next year.
