Broadway’s Come From Away will play a special added benefit performance May 6. Proceeds from the 7:30 PM show will benefit the Actors Fund.

The musical, penned by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, opened at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in March last year, going on to win director Christopher Ashley a Tony Award. It tells the story of the immediate community that formed when thousands of airline passengers found themselves stranded in the small Canadian town of Gander, Newfoundland following the terrorist attacks of September 11.

The current cast features Tony nominees Jenn Colella and Chad Kimball, Petrina Bromley, Geno Carr, Alex Finke, De’Lon Grant, Joel Hatch, Chad Kimball, Lee MacDougall, Caesar Samayoa, Q. Smith, Astrid Van Wieren, Sharon Wheatley, Josh Breckenridge, John Jellison, Tamika Lawrence, Tony LePage, Happy McPartlin, and Julie Reiber.

Come From Away is the latest show to take part in the Broadway tradition of benefit performances, in which the companies donate their time so that all proceeds will go to the Actors Fund. The non-profit organization provides professionals in the perfoming arts community with various programs and resources, including health care, affordable housing, senior care, and career development.

Recent shows to offer performances include The Band’s Visit, Dear Evan Hansen, and Bette Midler’s final performance in Hello, Dolly!.
