The 50th annual Joseph Jefferson Awards, recognizing the work of Equity productions in the Chicago area, were held October 22 at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook.

Among the evening's top winners were the American Blues Theater's production of Buddy—The Buddy Holly Story, which took home five Jeff Awards, including the prizes for Midsize Musical, Ensemble of a Musical, Performer in a Principal Role (Zachary Stevenson) and Director of a Midsize Musical (Lili-Anne Brown); and The Goodman Theatre and Ivo van Hove's A View From The Bridge, which was awarded the Jeff Awards for Large Production of a Play and for Direction.

Also winning two Jeff Awards: the Marriott Theatre's production of Ragtime, which took home the award for Large Musical or Revue as well as for Direction (Nick Bowling).

In the Midsize Play category, A Red Orchid Theatre's production of Traitor was awarded three Jeff Awards: New Adaptation (Brett Neveu), Direction (Michael Shannon), and Production.

While some categories recognized just one winner, several categories named two or three recipients. David H. Bell was also awarded a Jeff Award in the Midsize Play category for his direction of Southern Gothic at Windy City Playhouse; and Jennifer Blackmer was a second winner in the New Adaptation category for Rivendell Theatre Ensemble's production of Alias Grace.

There were three winners in the New Work category: Dan Collins and Julianne Wick Davis for Trevor The Musical (Writers Theatre); Ellen Fairey for Support Group for Men (Goodman Theatre); and Boo Killebrew for Lettie (Victory Gardens Theater).

Additional winners in the performance categories included Jason Grimm, who was the second winner in the Performer in a Principal Role of a Musical for his performance in Murder for Two at Marriott Theatre; and Caroline Neff and Tara Mallen, who were awarded Jeff Awards for a Principal Role in a Play for their performances in Lettie (Victory Gardens Theater) and The Cake (Rivendell Theatre Ensemble), respectively.
