The American Repertory Theater has announced complete casting and creative duties for Celine Song’s Endlings, which will begin performances February 26 under the direction of Sammi Cannold (Violet).
The play about Korea’s “haenyeos,” three "sea women" who spend their dying days diving into the ocean to harvest seafood will feature Wai Ching Ho as Han Sol, Emily Kuroda as Go Min, and Jo Yang as Sook Ja. Also featured will be Jiehae Park as Ha Young and Miles G. Jackson as White Husband, alongside Matt DaSilva, Mark Mauriello, Andy Paterson, Keith Michael Pinault, and Kate Pak.
Song’s play juxtaposes the lives of the haenyeos with that of a Korean-Canadian playwright, “twice an immigrant, who spends her days wrestling with the expectation that she write ‘authentic’ stories about her identity. But what, exactly, is her identity? And how can she write about it without selling her own skin?”
Endlings will officially open March 1 for a run through March 17.
The creative team includes Jason Sherwood (scenic design), Linda Cho (costume design), Bradley King (lighting design), and Elisheba Ittoop (sound design).
