The Boston Pops 2017 spring season will conclude June 15-16 at 8 PM with the premiere of the symphonic version of Sondheim on Sondheim, the musical portrait of Stephen Sondheim seen on Broadway in 2010.

The cast will be led by Tony nominee Carmen Cusack (Bright Star), Tony nominee Phillip Boykin (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess), Tony winner Gabriel Ebert (Matilda the Musical), and Lisa Howard (It Shoulda Been You). All four appeared in last year's concert engagement of Sunday in the Park with George at New York City Center.

Keith Lockhart will conduct the orchestra; Sarna Lapine—who directed the four in Sunday in the Park with George and also helmed the current Broadway revival—directs. The event will also feature the Tanglewood Music Center Vocal Fellows.

“With the full support of Stephen Sondheim and show creator James Lapine, the popular Broadway show’s ten-piece pit orchestra arrangements have been reworked into lush new arrangements for a full symphony orchestra,” according to the Pops. “This retrospective of the life and work of America’s finest contemporary musical theater creator is told through his own words via film, live performers, and his music.”

The Boston Pops spring season, which opens May 10-11 with Queen Latifah, will also include concerts with Hamilton Tony winner Leslie Odom, Jr. (June 6-7).
