On August 25, CBS News welcomed Head Over Heels star Bonnie Milligan to talk about making her Broadway debut in the new musical featuring the songs of The Go-Go’s.
“This is amazing. This is all I've ever dreamed of,” says the native of Decatur, Illinois.
“I call it a modern-day fairy tale that is just serving joy,” she says of the original musical. “It's a comedy, which is nice and needed in times like these. It's all about self-discovery and romance and a lot of laughs.”
And because of its message of acceptance and love, Milligan relishes being part of a show families can come to together and a show with women at the forefront.
“You really are watching the women's journeys, finding their power, finding their voice, and it's a great message of female power,” says Milligan.
Directed by Michael Mayer and choreographed by Spencer Liff, Head Over Heels is an updated take on Philip Sidney’s Arcadia, rife with dramatic irony, comical courtship, and mistaken identity. James Magruder is the writer of the Broadway adaptation, which is based on an original book written by Avenue Q Tony winner Jeff Whitty for the musical's 2015 premiere at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
