The Broadway League has announced that Broadway marquees will dim their lights in memory of prolific producer and general manager Stuart Thompson on August 22 at 6:45 PM for one minute. The six-time Tony-winning producer and manager, who worked on over 70 Broadway and West End productions, passed away on August 17 at age 62.

“Stuart Thompson was a committed industry leader and an extraordinary producer with a sincere passion for theatre. He championed work that made a difference to both artists and audiences. He was a gem and will be greatly missed,” commented Charlotte St. Martin, President of the Broadway League, in a press statement. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues.
Thompson received 20 Tony Award nominations throughout his career, and produced the three longest-running Broadway plays of the past 25 years: The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Proof (2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama), and The Curious Incident of Dog in the Night-Time.
Thompson passed away at his home in New York from complications from esophageal cancer.
Donations can be made to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, on which he was on the Board of Directors, and the Medicare Rights Center. A memorial service will be planned for a future date.
