Will Chase will star in the pilot Panic from Amazon Studios, according to Deadline.

Chase, who is set to star opposite Kelli O’Hara in the upcoming Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Kiss Me, Kate, will play Sheriff Kean in the YA project based on Lauren Oliver’s best-selling novel. Oliver will also write the series.

Panic tells the story of the graduating seniors in a rural town who compete in an illegal game—in which nameless judges force the players to confront their biggest fears in challenges—to win a boatload of cash in order to leave their hometown. As previously announced, Dear Evan Hansen’s Mike Faist is set to play one of the teens. Chase’s character lost his son to the game and is determined to end it for good.

Having previously appeared on NBC’s Smash and ABC’s Nashville (and more recently on Stranger Things and Sharp Objects), Chase will also play a recurring character on NBC’s upcoming The Village.

Chase made his Broadway debut in the original production of Miss Saigon as replacement for the role of Chris. He later replaced as Jerry Lukowski in The Fully Monty, Radames in Aida, and then as Roger in Rent. His other Broadway credits include Lennon, High Fidelity, Billy Elliot, Story of My Life, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood, for which he earned his Tony nomination. Most recently, he replaced as Shakespeare in Broadway’s Something Rotten!.
