The world premiere engagement of the new musical Moulin Rouge! received 12 IRNE Awards nominations, honoring the best of theatre in the New England area. Also among the nominees is the American Repertory Theater production of the Alanis Morissette jukebox musical, Jagged Little Pill, which collected eight nominations.

Moulin Rouge!, based on the 2001 film, heralded the re-opening of the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston. Broadway performances will begin June 28 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The cast will include Aaron Tveit as Christian, Karen Olivo as Satine, and Danny Burstein as Harold Siegler—each of whom were IRNE-nominated for their performances in Boston. Jagged Little Pill will also make its Broadway debut in 2019, though there’s not yet any confirmation on exact dates or a theatre.
