British actor Kenneth Haigh has died at age 86, according to the New York Times. Haigh was seen on Broadway and American stages a number of times throughout his career, including the John Osborne's seminal Look Back in Anger in 1957. Haigh originated the role of Jimmy Porter in the show's premiere production at the Royal Court in 1956 and subsequent Broadway transfer.

His other Broadway credits included the title role in Albert Camus’ Caligula (1960), Neil Simon’s California Suite (1977), and the role of F. Scott Fitzgerald in Tennessee Williams’ Clothes for a Summer Hotel (1980).

Haigh also worked extensively in American regional theatre. He starred in Julius Caesar, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night at the American Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford, Connecticut, as well as in numerous productions at the Yale Repertory Theatre, including the title roles in Robert Lowell’s adaptation of Prometheus Bound and Pirandello’s Henry IV. At the American Palace Theatre, he starred in the world premiere of Lowell’s Endicott and the Cross.

In the U.K., he performed with The Royal Shakespeare Company, and London’s Chichester Theatre, among others.

Onscreen, Haigh was well-known for the British television series Man at the Top and as Sir Richard Burton in NBC’s Search for the Niles. He was also seen in the films Saint Joan, Cleopatra, Eagle in a Cage, and Robin and Marion.
