Written by David Elliot, the untitled project stars Clare O’Connor as Madeline, an attorney hell-bent on justice who opens up closed cases to exonerate wrongfully convicted prisoners. James will play the cutthroat state’s attorney.
James was last seen on Broadway in role of Hamilton’s King George, which he previously originated Off-Broadway at the Public Theater.
Prior to that, he earned Tony nominations for performances in Something Rotten!, Shrek, and Sweet Smell of Success. His additional Broadway credits include Macbeth, Times Stands Still, Next to Normal, and The Apple Tree.
James’ screen career has launched considerably in recent years. He was a part of the Oscar-winning Spotlight's ensemble cast and currently stars in Netflix’s original series 13 Reasons Why. He appeared in Molly’s Game last year and will next be seen on screen in First Man, starring Claire Foy, Ryan Gosling, Jason Clarke, and Kyle Chandler.
Conversely, Strong has some theatre-related projects lined up: penning scripts for the Thomas Kail-directed remake of Oliver!, as well as a Frank Sinatra bio-musical in development. He recently premiered a revised book for the musical Chess at the Kennedy Center's concert presentation.
