Awards Betty Buckley Will Receive Sarah Siddons Society’s Actor of the Year Award Buckley, soon to be seen in the national tour of Hello, Dolly!, will be honored in November.

Tony winner Betty Buckley, who will star as matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi in the forthcoming national tour of the Tony-winning revival of Hello, Dolly!, will be honored by the Sarah Siddons Society at its annual Gala in November.

Buckley, who can also be seen in the AMC hit Preacher, will accept the Actor of the Year Award at the November 12 fundraiser, which will be held at the University Club of Chicago, 76 East Monroe. (Dolly! will play Broadway in Chicago’s Oriental Theatre October 23–November 17.)

“With this well-deserved recognition, Ms. Buckley joins an illustrious group of stage legends recognized by the Sarah Siddons Society during the past 66 years. We couldn’t be more excited than to honor her remarkable contributions to the American stage with this year’s award,” said Marty Balogh, president of the Society, in a statement.

The evening will include a cocktail reception, dinner, and ceremony, as well as a silent auction. Honorary Chair of the Event is Broadway in Chicago Vice President Eileen LaCario. Bill Zwecker of Fox TV will act as Master of Ceremonies. Entertainment will be provided by Chicago artists to be announced.

Betty Buckley offered acclaimed performances in Broadway's Sunset Boulevard, Carrie, Song & Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, 1776, Triumph of Love, and Promises, Promises. She won a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella in the Broadway production of Cats, and she starred on the London stage in Promises, Promises, Dear World, and Sunset Boulevard, earning an Olivier Award nomination for her work in the latter. Buckley was also inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.

The Sarah Siddons Society grants scholarships to theatre students from the city’s top theatre programs at Northwestern University, DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago, and Roosevelt University. The mission of the Society is to assist the next generation of rising stars fulfill their dreams.

All proceeds benefit the Sarah Siddons Scholarship Fund.
