The Berkshire Theatre Group has announced the lineup for its 2019 summer season, which will launch July 11 with Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama The Skin of Our Teeth. David Auburn (Proof) will direct the modern-day parable that runs through August 3 on the Fitzpatrick Main Stage at BTG’s Stockbridge, Massachusetts, campus.
Tony nominee Gregg Edelman (Into the Woods) will direct the world premiere of Kathleen Clark’s What We May Be, about a close-knit troupe of actors facing their final performance in their beloved theatre. Performances run August 8–31 at the Fitzpatrick.
The Unicorn Theatre season will open May 24 with Edward Albee’s The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? Eric Hill directs the tense drama that is scheduled to run through June 15. John Patrick Shanley’s Outside Mullingar, an unlikely romantic comedy about two middle-aged Irish farmers who take a chance on each other, will run June 22–July 13 under the direction of Karen Allen.
The Broadway musical adaptation of Studs Terkel’s Working, featuring music by Stephen Schwartz, James Taylor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more, will follow, running July 18–August 24. James Barry will direct the revised version of the show.
What The Jews Believe, by actor-playwright Mark Harelik, will run September 26–October 20. Harelik (The Light in the Piazza, The Big Bang Theory) also directs his poignant work about the loss of faith and a family’s journey to find it.

Playing the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield from June 27–July 21 will be the previously announced Rock and Roll Man: The Alan Freed Story, a new musical detailing the rise of legendary disc jockey Alan Freed. Randal Myler will direct the musical that has a book by Gary Kupper, Larry Marshak, and Rose Caiola, original music by Kupper mixed with hits from the era, including “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” “Tutti Frutti,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” and others.
The season at the Colonial will conclude with an all-youth production of Shrek The Musical (August 1–17) and Hershey Felder in George Gershwin Alone (August 24–31).
