Film & TV News Ben Platt to Star in Ryan Murphy’s The Politician for Netflix The comedy, which received a straight-to-series two-season order, is also eyeing Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Dear Evan Hansen Tony Award winner Ben Platt will star in the upcoming Netflix series The Politician. According to Deadline, the new comedy from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan has received the green light for two seasons.

In talks to co-star are Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow, though the streaming service has not yet made an official announcement.

The series will follow Platt's character Payton through his various political pursuits; Deadline reports that he will have musical numbers in multiple episodes.

Production is slated to begin in late summer.

Platt, who recently performed a tribute to Leonard Bernstein on the Grammys, is also at work on his upcoming solo album through Atlantic Records. He played his final performance in Broadway's Dear Evan Hansen in November.
