The Cake, written by Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us) and directed by Jennifer Chambers, plays the Barrington Stage Company June 21–July 15 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award winner Debra Jo Rupp heads the cast as Della with Nemuna Ceesay as Macy, Virginia Vale as Jen, Douglas Rees as Tim, and Morrison Keddie as George.
In the timely production, Della makes cakes, not judgment calls—those, she leaves to her husband, Tim. But when her best friend’s daughter comes home to North Carolina to get married, Della’s life gets turned upside down when she realizes there’s not just one bride, but two. For the first time in her life Della has to think for herself, forcing her to re-examine some her deeply-held beliefs, as well as her own marriage.
The production has scenic design by Tim Mackabee, costume design by Tricia Barsamian, lighting design by
Matthew Richards, sound design and compositions by
Alexander Sovronsky, and wig design by
Trent Pcenicni.
