Actor Evan Ruggiero and dancer Gemma Bond are the recipients of the eighth annual Clive Barnes Awards and a cash prize of $5,000 each.

Ruggiero was recognized for his breakout performance in the new rock musical Bastard Jones, which debuted Off-Broadway last summer. Bond dances with American Ballet Theatre.

The Clive Barnes Awards are held annually and divided into categories of Dance and Theatre. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Walter Reade Theatre January 8.

Bastard Jones led the nominees in the theatre category, with both Ruggiero and Elena Wang receiving nominations for their performances in the show. The new rock musical from Marc Acito and Amy Engelhardt played the Cell Off-Broadway in 2017.

Grace van Patten was also nominated for a Clive Barnes Award for her performance in Hamish Linklater’s play The Whirligig.

The Clive Barnes Foundation was formed in 2009, in honor of theatre critic Clive Barnes, to create annual awards giving recognition, encouragement, and financial support to two talented young professionals.
