Audra McDonald, James Corden, and Dan Stevens Perform Inappropriate Musicals—From The Shape of Water to Taxi Driver | Playbill

Film & TV News Audra McDonald, James Corden, and Dan Stevens Perform Inappropriate Musicals—From The Shape of Water to Taxi Driver Finally, an answer to the question, "What would a musical version of A Quiet Place sound like?"

Legendary performer Audra McDonald stopped by James Corden’s The Late Late Show May 21. As Corden explained, many musicals today are inspired by films. Corden invited the six-time Tony winner and actor Dan Stevens to create numbers from potential musicals based on movies; watch the clip above.

Stevens, who recently played the Beast in the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast (sharing the screen with McDonald), and Corden started the segment off with a parodied version of Taxi Driver with the musical number “You Talkin’ to Me?”

McDonald and Corden then sang a number from the faux musical version of the Oscar-winning The Shape of Water. Lyrics to their number include:

When a fish loves a fish he becomes a man
When a woman loves a fish she fries him in her pan
From the second look at the tank
You looked up I've been hooked line and sinker
The feelings linger
We don't need words

The full trio then performed a spoof on John Krasinski’s hit horror flick A Quiet Place, which is admittedly not great fodder for a musical based on premise alone.

McDonald also sat down with Corden and comedian Billy Eichner. Turns out, Eichner and McDonald both saw Starlight Express as their first Broadway musical—but with very different reactions. Watch the interview, which also breaks down Eichner’s encounter with Barbra Streisand and why McDonald will never clone her dog, below.
