The Geffen Playhouse and Audible have partnered to produce the world premiere of Marisela Treviño Orta’s Nightfall, a commission from the latest round of Audible’s Emerging Playwrights program, announced earlier this year.

Set to premiere in February 2020, Nightfall will be the final production in the Geffen’s 2019-2020 season. Audible is also planning to release Orta’s work as an audio play in conjunction with its opening night at the Geffen.

The play centers on a mother and daughter whose family camping trip is interrupted by news of a "mysterious outbreak causing the humans in nearby San Francisco to become… well, bitey. With little information to go on, the two women must identify the biggest threat to their safety–the supposedly deadly virus, the stranger who stumbles into their campsite or each other."
