Industry News Apollo Theater to Develop 2 New Performance Spaces The Apollo Performing Arts Center will provide two additional black box spaces, in addition to the iconic Harlem mainstage venue.

Harlem’s Apollo Theater is growing in an effort to champion works by up-and-coming artists of color. The famed Harlem venue will expand to include two new venues—a 99-seat and 199-seat black box—as part of the nearby Victoria Theater, which is currently undergoing redevelopment.

According to the New York Times, the Apollo Performing Arts Center complex, taking up 25,000 square feet, will open its doors in fall 2020.

With the expansion, the Apollo will be able to commission and develop works by a diverse range of artists who may not have had an opportunity to have their work showcased in the Apollo’s flagship 1,500-seat theatre.
