Ann Hampton Callaway has revealed that she will use her planned August 30–31 booking at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola in New York to roll out her new solo show, Jazz Goes to the Movies.

Callway told Playbill that the show grew out of the creative process of planning her upcoming new CD. “My producer Lisa Schiff and I found that many of the songs we were interested in came from films. One of my favorite shows I’ve created recently is Jazz Meets Broadway. My upcoming show, Jazz Goes to the Movies, will have a similar bent, exploring the fascinating ways jazz and film have come together to tell stories.”

She said her playlist will include “Taking a Chance on Love” from Vernon Duke’s Cabin in the Sky, “Let’s Face the Music and Dance” from Irving Berlin’s Follow the Fleet, “This Time the Dream’s on Me,” from Harold Arlen’s Blues in the Night, and “As Time Goes By,” the Herman Hupfeld classic from Casablanca.

Callaway said she also is considering including jazz songs she has recorded for films, including “Come Rain or Come Shine” from The Good Shepherd, “The Nearness of You” from Last Holiday, and “Pourquoi,” a song she wrote for the new motion picture Blind starring Alec Baldwin and Demi Moore.

Callaway will be accompanied at the concert by Ted Rosenthal on piano, Martin Wind on bass, and Tim Horner on drums.

She earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance in the 1999 musical Swing!. She now tours and plays concerts internationally.

Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, associated with Jazz at Lincoln Center, is located at 10 Columbus Circle (Broadway at 60th Street) in Manhattan. Callaway will give two performances nightly, at 7:30 and 9:30 PM.
