New York Theatre Workshop’s production of Hammaad Chaudry’s An Ordinary Muslim will play an additional two weeks, with the extension bringing the run through March 25. The world premiere from the playwright in residence looks at what it means to balance heritage and tradition with the new.

Directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney, An Ordinary Muslim began performances Off-Broadway February 7 and will officially open February 26. The play follows a young London couple trying to reconcile the expectations of their parents and the traditions of their Pakistani heritage with the pressures of living in a modern, Western society.

Performances were originally scheduled through March 11.

Leading the cast are Purva Bedi (Idiot) and Sanjit De Silva (Troilus and Cressida), who are joined by Angel Desai (Peer Gynt and The Norwegian Hapa Band), Andrew Hovelson (The Father), Harsh Nayyar (Chief Zabu), Sathya Sridharan (The Winter’s Tale), Ranjit Chowdhry (Prison Break), and Rita Wolf (The Rug Dealer).

An Ordinary Muslim features scenic design by Neil Patel (Time and the Conways), costume design by Susan Hilferty (Buried Child), lighting design by Lap Chi Chu (The Wolves), sound design by Elisheba Ittoop (Stuffed), and fight direction by Thomas Schall (Six Degrees of Separation). Dawn-Elin Fraser serves as dialect coach, with stage management by Lori Ann Zepp (Daphne’s Dive).
