Roundabout Theatre Company will present two “Relaxed Performances” of Amy and the Orphans, Lindsey Ferrentino's acclaimed new play about a woman with Down Syndrome, April 11 at 2 PM and April 18 at 7:30 PM. The select performances are designed to be inclusive theatrical experiences for theatregoers with special needs as well as those attending with them.

As the name suggests, these performances are less formal and more supportive of sensory, communication, movement, and learning needs. Slight technical modifications include reduced sound levels, and house lights will remain at a low level, so that the audience is never completely in the dark.
During these performances of Amy and the Orphans, patrons are welcome to take a break from the show in a designated “break area” if needed. Assistive communication devices and comfort items will be welcomed; the theatre will be staffed with volunteers who have experience working with individuals with special needs. Amy and the Orphans tells the story of a woman with Down Syndrome who is reunited with her siblings on a road trip after their father's death. The Off-Broadway production stars American Horror Story's Jamie Brewer, who plays Amy.
Tony nominee Scott Ellis directs a cast completed by Tony winner Debra Monk (Redwood Curtain, Steel Pier), Mark Blum (The Assembled Parties), Vanessa Aspillaga, Diane Davis, and Josh McDermitt. Edward Barbanell is the understudy.
Performances of Amy and the Orphans began February 1 in the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre and are scheduled through April 2.
