American Theatre Wing Announces Its Centennial Celebration | Playbill

Industry News American Theatre Wing Announces Its Centennial Celebration The September gala will celebrate 100 years of American theatre and benefit the institution’s nationwide programs.

One hundred years ago, seven women of the theatre founded The Stage Women’s War Relief, which has evolved to become today’s American Theatre Wing.

On September 18, the Wing will celebrate its history and what’s to come with a Centennial Gala benefit at New York City’s Cipriani.

The Wing supports such programs as the Theatre Intern Network, Springboard NYC to support young professionals in theatre, and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative to support students pursuing theatre; the Wing also supports industry creatives through the Jonathan Larson Grant, National Theatre Company Grant, and more. The Wing presents the Tony Awards in partnership with The Broadway League and the OBIE Awards in conjunction with The Village Voice.

American Theatre Wing President and CEO Heather Hitchens said in a statement, “We will not only look at the past 100 years, but also ahead as we dedicate our energy and resources to making sure the next generation is on the stage, behind the scenes, and in the audience. I look forward to toasting our unique history and promising future—a future in which American Theatre continues to play a leading role in shaping our nation’s history. This is an event that is not to be missed.”

The event will feature dinner, cocktails, and performances—though performers have not yet been announced. For tickets and more information, contact Jeremiah Hernandez by calling (212) 765-0606 or emailing [email protected].
