Readings and Workshops Amber Iman, Phoenix Best, More Join Vassar and New York Stage and Film’s 2019 Powerhouse Season The series of in-development works continues through July.

Vassar and New York Stage and Film has revealed additional casting for its current Powerhouse Season in Poughkeepsie, New York. Among those newly added to the roster are Hamilton veteran Amber Iman and Dear Evan Hansen’s Phoenix Best.

The two will appear in a workshop presentation of Goddess, created by director Saheem Ali, composer Michael Thurber, and playwright Jocelyn Bioh (with additional lyrics by Mkhululi Z. Mabija). The July 26–28 presentation will also feature Rodrick Covington (Once On This Island), Janelle McDermoth (A Bronx Tale), Abena Mensah-Bonsu (School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play), Adesola Osakalumi (Fela!), Lance Roberts (My Fair Lady), Avery Smith (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), and Antoine L. Smith (Carousel, Miss Saigon).

Tony Award winner Frank Wood, recently on Broadway in Network, will appear in the second “Inside Look” production of the season, Emily Feldman’s The Best We Could (a family tragedy), running July 25–27. Daniel Aukin directs a cast that also includes Eboni Booth (Dance Nation), Kristin Griffith (The Fatal Weakness), Tyrone Mitchell Henderson (Much Ado About Nothing), and Lisa Joyce (The Ugly One).

Also announced are the casts for four readings happening in July:

Becky Nurse of Salem by Sarah Ruhl (July 19)
Directed by Ruhl and featuring Mark Bedard, Brian Kerwin, David McElwee, Ann McDonough, Polly Noonan, Susannah Perkins, and Miriam Silverman

Delusion by Proxy by Brooke Adams (July 20)
Directed by Ethan Silverman and featuring Caroline Aaron, Lynne Adams, Sarah Deaver, Sara Ettner, and Peter Gerety.

The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin by Jessica Huang (July 20)
Directed by Kip Fagan and featuring Kim Blanck, Caroline Hewitt, Kaipo Schwab, David Shih, Ricardo Vázquez, and Jeena Yi

The Excavation of Mary Anning by Ian August (July 21)
Directed by Sammi Cannold and featuring Sami Bray, Alejandra Escalante, Vanessa Kai, Amy Jo Jackson, Nike Kadri, and Patrena Murray
