The Mamma Mia! sequel has its first official returning face. Amanda Seyfried, who played the role of Sophie Sheridan in the 2008 film, will reprise her performance for the previously reported follow-up feature, according to Deadline. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is set to be released July 20, 2018.
Though most of the original film’s cast, including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, and Christine Baranski, are expected to return, no further casting has been officially announced.
The new movie will feature an original story and incorporate songs heard in the first feature, as well as additional ABBA tunes. Ol Parker will direct, with creator Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman returning to produce.
Following the success of the film adaptation of the ABBA musical, Seyfried went on to appear in such movies as Dear John, Lovelace, The Last Word, and Les Misérables, in which she played Cosette. In 2015, she made her New York stage debut in the Second Stage production of The Way We Get By Off-Broadway. Working on that production introduced her to Thomas Sadoski; the two wed earlier this year and welcomed their first child in March.
