Broadway alums Alex Newell and Skylar Astin have been tapped to star in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, a new musical pilot from NBC, according to Deadline.

The drama-comedy, described as “What Women Want meets La La Land,” is created by Austin Wisnberg (who also penned the pilot), Paul Feig, and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum. It follows the Zoey (to be played by Jane Levy), who suddenly realizes she can hear other people’s innermost thought—in the form of elaborate musical numbers.

Newell is set to play Mo, Zoey’s easygoing neighbor, with Astin as Zoey’s co-worker and best friend Max.

Prior to making his Broadway debut in the recent Tony-winning revival of Once On This Island, Newell showed off his powerhouse vocals as Wade “Unique” Adams on Glee. Astin appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening and has gone on to star in the Pitch Perfect series; he can currently be seen as (the new version of) Greg on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

The Peacock network has a history of blending musical theatre and serial programming, with such past shows as Smash and Rise.
