Five acclaimed artists of the opera world will be honored at the 14th annual Opera News Awards, to be presented at the publication's annual gala April 7, 2019, at the Plaza Hotel.

The new class of recipients are soprano Ailyn Pérez (onstage at the Metropolitan Opera this season in La Bohème and Falstaff), mezzo-soprano Rosalind Elias (who celebrated a four-decade career at the Met and made her Broadway debut in the 2011 revival of Follies), director Laurent Pelly (the Met's La Fille du Régiment, Cendrillon), bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni (singing the title role in Don Giovanni beginning in January), and tenor Ramón Vargas (seen on the Met stage in La Cenerentola, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and more).

"Since the Awards' inception in 2005, Opera News looks forward to recognizing outstanding men and women in the world of opera," said Editor-in-Chief F. Paul Driscoll in a statement. "These five artists have transformed the way audiences experience opera and have left an everlasting impact on this essential and ever-evolving art form."

Tickets, starting at $1,000, are available at MetGuild.org. The evening will include a musical tribute in honor of the recipients.
