The world premiere of Inda Craig-Galván’s Black Super Hero Magic Mama opened at the Geffen Playhouse March 13 after beginning preview performances March 5. The new play tells the story of a mother who grieves the death of her son, a victim of a police shooting, by retreating to a superhero-filed fantasy world.

The production, directed by Roberto O’Hara is scheduled to run through April 14 in Los Angeles.

Black Super Hero Magic Mama stars Noah Abbot (Flat Joe), Reiko Aylesworth (Connie Wright), Walter Belenky (Dave Lester), Daryl C. Brown (Coach Corey Brackett), Kevin Douglas (Tom Blackman), Kimberly Hébert Gregory (Sabrina Jackson), Cedric Joe (Tramarion Jackson), and Cynthia Kaye Williams (Lena Evers).

Black Super Hero Magic Mama features scenic design by Myung Hee Cho, costume design by Karen Perry, lighting design by Alex Jainchill, original music and sound design by Lindsay Jones, and Projection design by Yee Eun Nam.
