Pipeline Theatre Company will present the world premiere of Folk Wandering, a new folk musical conceived by Men on Boats playwright Jaclyn Backhaus and Andrew Neisler (Clown Bar). The show features book and lyrics by Backhaus and music by nine New York-based singer-songwriters.
To be directed by Neisler, Folk Wandering will debut Off-Broadway in spring 2018. A theatre will be announced at a later date.
In addition to book and lyrics by Backhaus, the new musical will feature music by Blake Allen, Mike Brun (music director for Mr. Burns), Andrew R. Butler (Finn the Fearless), Joel Esher (PharmaBro: an American Douchical!), Alex Fast (The Drawer Boy), Jo Lampert (Joan of Arc: Into The Fire), Barrie McLain (you’ll still call me by name), Annie Tippe (director, Ghost Quartet), and Dominique Toney (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).
Folk Wandering weaves tales from tenement Manhattan, the deserts of Utah, and small-town Indiana. The show is billed as “an exploration of the hopes and heartbreaks that weave through our American fabric, and of the untold past that propels us forward.”
Folk Wandering will feature arrangements by Brun and Esher, with orchestrations by Brun, and additional orchestrations by Allen.
Pipeline will offer a sneak peek at the new show at its upcoming spring gala April 30 at (le) poisson rouge. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit pipelinetheatre.org/about/2017-gala.
