59E59 Theaters has announced its lineup of shows for the summer through mid-October. The selection includes the return of the short play festival Summer Shorts, a production from Ivy Theatre Company featuring a mix of puppetry and live-action, as well as an Irish rom-com involving a farmer, a woman, and a jealous cow.

The summer season will kick off with the annual East to Edinburgh festival, which will feature shows from the U.S. ahead of their Edinburgh Festival Fringe engagements. The festival will run July 11–30.

Summer Shorts, another annual tradition, will also return in July. The festival of short plays will play July 21–September 2, with details to be announced shortly.

In August, Ivy Theatre Company will debut Stephen Kaplan’s A Real Boy, the story of two puppets who adopt a human child. The production, which will weave puppetry with live-action, will be directed by Audrey Alford and will feature Katie Braden. Performances will run August 2 –27.

From August 29–September 24, 59E59 Theaters will present Irish theatre company Fishamble’s Charolais. Noni Stapleton writes and performs the unusual tale, about a love triangle between a farmer, an Irish woman, and a “sexy French singing Charolais heifer.” Bairbre Ní Chaoimh directs.

Beginning September 16, Penguin Rep returns to 59E59 Theaters to share the behind-the-scenes story of Disney’s celebrated film Fantasia in Small World. Performances will play through October 7.

Rounding out the season will be the New York premiere of William Donnelly’s No Wake, a drama about the unexpected consequences of grief. Produced by Chicago’s Route 66 Theater Company, performances will run September 28–October 15.

The lineup will also feature Peter and Will Anderson’s sixth production of their concert series, Songbook Summit, featuring the songs of Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, and Richard Rodgers.
